Inclusive education has undergone a substantial transformation over the past decades, shifting from deficit-oriented models toward educational approaches that recognize learner variability as a natural characteristic of every classroom. Universal Design for Learning (UDL), developed by the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST), represents one of the most influential evidence-based frameworks for designing accessible, flexible, and equitable learning environments. Rather than adapting instruction only after learning barriers emerge, UDL promotes proactive curriculum planning that anticipates diversity from the outset. The publication of the CAST UDL Guidelines 3.0 has further expanded this framework by emphasizing learner identity, educational equity, cultural responsiveness, belonging, and the elimination of exclusionary educational practices. These developments have positioned UDL as a comprehensive pedagogical framework that integrates neuroscience, inclusive pedagogy, educational psychology, and assistive technology into a coherent model of teaching and learning. The purpose of this review paper is to examine the application of Universal Design for Learning in inclusive educational practice through a multidisciplinary perspective. Particular attention is given to the collaborative roles of special educators, speech and language therapists, psychologists, pedagogues, classroom teachers, and other educational professionals in designing learning environments that minimize barriers and maximize opportunities for participation and achievement. Furthermore, the paper critically synthesizes contemporary international research published between 2020 and 2026 regarding the effectiveness of UDL across different educational contexts. The reviewed evidence consistently demonstrates that UDL contributes to improved academic achievement, learner engagement, self-regulation, communication skills, executive functioning, and social participation among students with diverse educational needs. Simultaneously, successful implementation remains challenged by insufficient professional development, limited institutional support, rigid assessment systems, and inconsistencies in educational policy. The paper argues that sustainable implementation of Universal Design for Learning requires systemic educational reform rather than isolated classroom adaptations. Establishing multidisciplinary collaboration, investing in teacher education, integrating assistive technologies, and adopting evidence-based instructional practices represent essential prerequisites for creating inclusive schools capable of responding to learner variability while promoting educational equity for all students.
